2016 NBA Playoff Round 2 - Game Day 11

The Thunder stun the spurs, beating them in San Antonio to take a 3-2 series lead. Westbrook recorded 35pts, 11reb, 9asts and Durant had 23pts, both combining to score or assist on 80 of OKC's 95pts. Leonard had 26pts and Green 20pts on 6-of-9 from 3pt range. Down by 6, Westbrook scored 7pts, 2reb and 1ast in the final 4minutes. Westbrook scored on a long 2, followed by a fastbreak layup. He missed his next shot but grabbed the offensive rebound and passed it to Kanter underneath the rim to tie the game with 2:20 left. Kanter blocked Tim Duncan's shot on the other end, then was able to tip in a missed bankshot by Durant to put the Thunder up by 2. Parker came back with a jumpshot to tie the game at 1:35. After a bad pass by Westbrook, Parker missed his next shot and OKC had a chance to take the lead with the game tied. Durant was fouled as Green crashed into him after tripping over Adam's foot, and Durant made both free throws for a 2pt lead. Parker was fouled with 43sec left, but was only able to trim the lead to 1 after missing his 2nd free throw. Durant lost the ball with 29sec left but the Spurs were unable to capitalise as Parker missed yet another jumpshot with 11sec remaining. After a timeout, Waiters inbounded the ball with 9.3sec left to Westbrook who was able to avoid the intentional foul before laying the ball in over Aldridge plus the foul. His made free throw with 6.3sec left put OKC up by 4 and the game out of reach. The Spurs had lost only 1 home game all season, but have now lost 2. OKC have a chance to wrap up the series in Oklahoma City in game 6.

Stephen Curry won the regular season MVP award for the 2nd year in a row, winning the award unanimously for the first time in MVP history. He is the 11th player to win back-to-back MVPs, and only the 3rd guard to do so. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook finished 4th and 5th in MVP voting, becoming only the 4th teammate pair to finish in the top 5 in the past 30 years - the others were Kobe and Shaq, Jordan and Pippen and Bird and McHale.
